Azimuth magnetic compass is a kind of navigation pointing instrument which is made of the phenomenon that the geomagnetic field is attractive to the magnetic needle. It can indicate the course, position and navigation for ships. Azimuth magnetic compass is mainly composed of compass cabinet and compass basin. The compass card with magnetic needle is installed in the compass basin. According to the structure, magnetic compass can be divided into dry compass and liquid compass; according to the use, it can be divided into standard compass, steering compass, emergency compass, boat compass, etc. Most modern ships are equipped with a standard compass on the open deck on the top of the bridge, which can project the compass readings into the cab, and can also be used as a steering compass. There are two types of gyrocompass: reflection type and projection type. Their basic structure is similar to that of ordinary gyrocompass, with only one more set of optical projection system.
