The Introduction Of The New Yacht Magnetic Compass Self-difference Semi-automatic Calibration Device.

Jun 19, 2022|

The yacht magnetic compass is a pointing instrument by the action of geomagnetism. It is subjected to the magnetic action of the hull to produce a pointing error, which is what we call the magnetic compass self-difference.

We know that the yacht magnetic compass must be in a normal state in order to correct the course during sailing and manoeuvring, and if it is to be in a normal state, the self-difference must be corrected, and the residual self-difference should be determined. At present, most of the yacht magnetic compass self-difference measurement still uses the manual operation method more than 100 years ago, which is not only time-consuming and labor-intensive, but also has low accuracy and poor reliability of the self-difference table. A new type of yacht magnetic compass self-difference semi-automatic measuring device is presented. The following is an introduction to the basic principles of this device:

This device is mainly divided into two parts, namely measurement and calibration. The self-difference can be determined by the gyration method and the corresponding formula, and the self-difference correction is to use a magnet or soft iron to generate an artificial magnetic force to cancel the effect of the hull's hard iron force and soft iron force on the yacht's magnetic compass. In order to meet this requirement, it is necessary to choose a Hall device or a fluxgate sensor as a linear magnetic field sensor.

The above is the basic introduction to the yacht magnetic compass self-difference semi-automatic calibration device.
