Magnetic Compass Reflection Scale Reading Is Not Clear Solution.

In the safety inspection of bulk and general cargo ships, the reflection display scale of the main magnetic compass before the steering position in the cab is often blurred and recorded as a defect, especially in old bulk carriers.

The author also encountered this situation on a 19a ship age bulk carrier, and applied for shore-based repair many times before, and the reading of the main magnetic compass reflection scale after each repair personnel overhaul was clear for a few days and then blurred. The ship's second officer spends a lot of time on the maintenance and cleaning of the magnetic compass before each port call, ensuring the clarity of the reflection scale reading of the main magnetic compass during the port call. However, after several cleaning, the effect became worse and worse, and the reflection scale of the main magnetic compass became completely blurred.
According to the author's previous experience and on-site observation results, the second officer was asked to pour half a cup of alcohol on the dress glass of the magnetic compass reflection display system and soak it for 24h, and then use a sponge to absorb the alcohol on the glass surface and wipe it off. After that, the reflection scale reading of the main magnetic compass was clear as new until the author left office.
