Hyperbolic positioning System

Starting from the 40 's, in the radio positioning system, successively developed Roland (Long range Navigation, Loran) A/C, Taiwan Card (DECCA), Ami Gamma (Omega), such as a variety of hyperbolic radio positioning system, these positioning systems have their merits, at the time of all the period played an important role, is a very important positioning system, at present, due to the emergence of satellite positioning system or will gradually shut down.

The hyperbolic positioning system is composed of two parts, which is set up on the shore of the transmitting station system and the ship positioning instrument used to receive the system. According to the different pulse signal emitted, and the method of determining the time difference, the hyperbolic positioning system can be divided into:

(1) Pulse hyperbolic positioning system, by measuring the time difference between the pulse signals of two transmitter stations, obtains the position line, such as Roland a system.

(2) Phase hyperbolic positioning system, by measuring the phase difference between the continuous wave signals of two transmitter stations, obtains the curved position line, such as Taiwan Card and Ami Gamma system.

(3) The pulse phase hyperbolic positioning System is the time difference between the pulse signal of two transmitter stations, and the phase deviation of the carrier frequency in the signal envelope is determined, thus obtaining the hyperbolic position line, such as Roland C system. Because of the application of modern electronic technology in the ship locator of the hyperbolic positioning system, it realizes the automation of the hyperbolic positioning. At present, most of the locator is opened, as long as the input of the selected stations and other relevant information, the locator can automatically (continuously) display position (latitude and longitude), do not have to draw on the nautical charts. Some locators also have navigational and computational functions commonly used in navigation.
